    Government Polytechnic for Girls, Ahmedabad (GPGA), established in 1954, is one of the pioneer institutes in Diploma Engineering Education for Girls in the state of Gujarat.  The institute offers 3 year diploma programmes in 8 different branches.  All these programmes are varied with diploma engineering education offered in both core engineering and design.  Core engineering programmes are Civil Engineering and Electronics & Communication (EC).  There are two design oriented programmes in the form of Architecture and Computer Aided Costume Design & Dress Making (CACDDM).  This is the only Government Girls Polytechnic institute in Gujarat which offers both these 3 year design programmes.  The other diploma engineering programmes like Computer, Information Technology (IT), Biomedical and Information & Communication Technology (ICT), are also being offered at the institute.  Thus GPGA continues to offer quality education for Girls in diploma engineering in diverse fields and remains the most sought after one for admissions by meritorious girl-students of our state.

The year 2025 has been one of exceptional growth, achievement, and innovation at Government Polytechnic for Girls, Ahmedabad. Across all departments—Computer Engineering, Electronics & Communication/ICT, Information Technology, and Science & Humanities—our students and faculty have demonstrated academic excellence, creativity, discipline, and a strong commitment to societal impact. Our students have secured top ranks with outstanding SPI and CGPA scores, including university-level recognition and gold medals.  All the departments of our institute reported strong academic performance in 2025, with students consistently achieving high CPI/CGPA/SPI scores and securing top ranks across all semesters. All departments also emphasized on practical learning through industrial, construction site and hospital visits, thus helping students understand real-world clinical workflows, manpower and equipment management, safety standards, and regulatory practices, thereby bridging the gap between theory and application.  Expert lectures on important subjects and entrepreneurship, alumni interactions, placement camps, MoUs with industry and NGOs and skill development initiatives have ensured that our students are future-ready, technically competent, ethically grounded, socially responsible and thus prepared them for higher education, professional careers and self-employment in the industry.

    Taking inspiration from the aforementioned quotes of Steve Jobs and Thomas Edison, our students have also excelled in national platforms such as the Smart India Hackathon and SSIP, developed AI-driven projects on sustainability, healthcare, and smart technologies, and actively participated in co-curricular activities, debates, coding competitions, AI festivals, and technical workshops.  Industrial visits to premier institutions such as ISRO, CED, SAAC, and leading technology companies have strengthened industry exposure and practical learning.

Beyond academics, students actively participated in institute-level activities, winning prizes in sports (Kho-Kho), poster making, rangoli, umbrella painting, and cultural competitions, reflecting strong creativity, teamwork, and leadership skills.  All departments also emphasized upon practical exposure and skill development through a wide range of co-curricular activities. Workshops on Mud Mirror art, CorelDraw, Photoshop, AutoCAD, and sewing machine operation enhanced technical and creative competencies.  The vibrant participation of both students and faculties in Khelotsav as well as cultural programmes like Garba, fostered teamwork, fitness, and leadership. 

    Faculty achievements were equally notable, with Dr. Rikita Parikh completing her PhD on Medical Visual Question-Answering and Dr. Rakesh D. Motka completing his Ph.D on neural-network-based blood glucose prediction and publishing research on optimized LSTM models for Type-1 diabetes management.  Ms. Aarti R. Dalwadi received a Gold Medal in ME Biomedical at GTU, adding to the department’s academic prestige.  Thus, our faculty members have continued to raise the academic stature of the institute through Ph.D. completions, high-quality research publications, international conference participation, STEM research grants, and continuous faculty development programs.  Their noteworthy contributions have enriched our academic environment with indexed research, webinars, and inspiring achievements beyond academics. The EC department’s NBA accreditation up to 2028 stands as a hallmark of quality assurance of our institute.  I wish both IT and Biomedical Engg departments all the very best for their forthcoming NBA Compliance during Feb 2026.   In collaboration with Commissionerate of Technical Education, with funding by ELIXIR Foundation (an NGO run by President of India Awardees) and with SEA Institute of Design as knowledge partner, a state of the art Center of Excellence was set-up in Architecture Department and was duly inaugurated by our respected Commissioner sir himself in June 2025.  Facilities created in this centre include 20 high-end computers with licensed software like AutoCAD, SketchUp and Revit.  Around 500 students of Architecture, Civil Engg and Costume Design departments are likely to get benefit of this Centre of Excellence.  The main aim of this CoE is to prepare our students for industry-readiness and placements.

I take immense pride in our students, faculty, and staff for their dedication and collective efforts. Together, we continue to build an institution that empowers young women with knowledge, confidence, innovation, and a vision to serve the nation.  For achieving all its future goals, GPGA has all the necessary ingredients in place as it has highly qualified, self-motivated and knowledgeable faculty members in all departments who apart from expediting routine teaching-learning activities, are mentors to student innovators and startups too.   Our institute has been consistently excelling both in academics as well as innovation, while intellectual growth continues to thrive amongst girl students here.

    As always, I extend my best wishes to all GPGA staff members and students for all their endeavours in this academic year.  I also extend my wholehearted support to all staff members and girl-students of GPGA in all their endeavours to continue to achieve excellence in education, innovation as well as extra and co-curricular activities.  There’s no deadline to learning and I am sure we as an institute, shall continue to inculcate the values of Lifelong Learning amongst one and all.   I further express my sincere gratitude to all our stakeholders including our Alumni for their continued support, cooperation and active involvement to make GPGA, an institute of eminence for Girls, in near future. 

    As we step into 2026, the accolades we receive, inspire us to continue nurturing an ecosystem where innovation thrives and every student is empowered to build the future.  I, as institute head, have always wished the very best in everything, in every endeavour, in every venture, in every initiative of both our students and faculties.  I wish that this legacy is adhered to and even bettered in the long run for the benefit of our student fraternity.
